Chief Justice Gertrude Torkornoo has advised staff of the Judicial Service to embrace digitalization, professionalism and ethical conduct for efficient justice administration.
She said as the frontline and face of the justice delivery service their compliance with every code of conduct is paramount to their work.
Justice Torkornoo was speaking at the launch of the 50th anniversary celebration of the Judicial Service Staff Association of Ghana JUSAG, in Accra.
The Judicial Service Staff Association of Ghana, JUSAG, was founded on the 3rd of August, 1973, by the then Chief Justice, Justice Azu Crabbe at Cape Coast in the Central Region. The Association from its humble beginnings, has become a pillar of support for the Judiciary and the legal landscape of the country.
Chief Justice Gertrude Torkornoo said management of the Judicial Service is steadily working for the passage of a Judicial Service Constitutional Instrument to improve the condition of staff service and further ensure the effective functioning of the Judicial Service.
She urged executives of the Association to design activities that would imbibe discipline in members and further boost public confidence in the legal system.
National President of JUSAG Samuel Afotey Otu said over the last five decades, the Association has remained dependable in its commitment to excellence, professionalism, and the advancement of justice delivery in the country. He said JUSAG is making plans to institute integrity awards for members to promote high moral standards among staff.
He said the Association has instituted various welfare schemes which support members in critical situations. Mr Otu stated that JUSAG is working tirelessly to roll out programmes that would strengthen the independence of the Judiciary and protect it from unnecessary public attacks.
There were solidarity messages from the Ministry of Employment and Labour Relations, representatives of TUC and other Labour Unions. The anniversary is scheduled for August 2024.
