Hundreds of residents in Senya a suburb of Maamobi in the Ayawaso North Municipality, in the Greater Accra Region, have staged a street protest over what they called ‘impromptu ejection’ from the area.

The Residents on 25th August, 2022 used about four hours from 7am to 11am to match from Maamobi through New Town to Kwame Nkrumah Interchange and converged at the Obra Spot to read the petition under heavy police presence.

In the petition as read to the crowd, the Assemblyman for Senya Electoral Area Wisdom Boateng accused the MCE, Aminu Mohammed Zakari of treating his people as foreigners.
The MCE has only given 8 days’ notice for over one thousand people to park to pave the way for a new market to construct by an investor.

Wisdom Boateng says, his people have been occupying the pieces of land since 1967 and they pay monthly tax to the Assembly.
He added that “we are NPP members and we have nine polling stations here”.

Some of the placards with inscriptions read, “We will defend our rights, we are Ghanaians Mr. President, we are citizens of Ghana, stop the demolishing now, Mr. President, Mr. President fulfill your promise to us”.
