President John Dramani Mahama has urged newly sworn-in Justices of the Court of Appeal to ensure that their judgments demonstrate that justice in Ghana cannot be bought or influenced.
Speaking at the swearing-in ceremony at the Jubilee House in Accra on Thursday, October 2, 2025, the president said the event was not merely a formality of robes and oaths but a renewal of the covenant between the judiciary and the people of Ghana. He noted that Ghanaians do not only come to the courts for judgments but also for hope, hope that their rights will be protected, their voices will be heard, and that fairness will prevail.
“The Court of Appeal is the people’s court of renewal, often the last hope for justice when all other avenues have failed. That is why the authority you hold today is not only legal but profoundly moral,” President Mahama stated.
He cautioned the new justices against the growing perception that courts only serve the powerful, urging them to restore public confidence by upholding integrity, impartiality, and fidelity to the Constitution.
President Mahama also outlined reforms his government is pursuing to make justice more efficient and accessible, including digitising court processes, creating special courts to handle land disputes, and ensuring transparency to combat corruption.
He reminded the justices that justice is not separate from national development, describing it as “the invisible infrastructure on which every economy, community, and democracy rests.”
The president called on them to serve with courage, integrity, and humility, stressing that their decisions must rekindle public faith in the judiciary.
“Every ruling you make can remind citizens that Ghana is a land where truth prevails and justice is not for sale,” he said.
President Mahama congratulated the new justices and urged them to leave behind a legacy that will not only be recorded in law reports but remembered in the hearts of Ghanaians.
