The Sogakope District Hospital in the South Tongu District of the Volta Region has received financial and material support valued at GH¢70,000 from the MyHelp–YourHelp Foundation as part of its Christmas outreach and activities marking seven years of humanitarian service.

The support was delivered on Boxing Day during the second edition of the Foundation’s flagship initiative, “Love at First Cry,” aimed at easing the burden of unpaid medical bills on financially constrained patients while providing logistical assistance to the hospital during the festive season.

Hospital management received a symbolic cheque of GH¢70,000, which was used to settle outstanding medical bills for vulnerable patients across several wards.
According to the Foundation, the intervention covered the medical bills of more than 100 mothers in the maternity ward, as well as patients in the male, female, children, and emergency wards.
Among the cases supported was an emergency patient diagnosed with lung cancer, whose outstanding bill of GH¢10,000 was fully paid.

One of the most distressing cases involved a man who lost both his wife and newborn baby due to childbirth complications and was left unable to pay the accumulated hospital bills.
The MyHelp–YourHelp Foundation fully settled his outstanding balance, providing relief and closure during a period of deep emotional and financial hardship.

Established more than 20 years ago, the government-owned Sogakope District Hospital serves as the main referral centre for several health facilities along the Accra–Aflao highway, a major international corridor linking Ghana to Togo. The hospital provides essential healthcare services including maternal and child health care, emergency services, medical and surgical care, and outpatient services to a rapidly growing population in the area.

In addition to settling medical bills, the Foundation donated food items worth about GH¢30,000 to support patients and hospital staff during the Christmas season. The items included 30 bags of rice, 150 bottles of cooking oil, eight boxes of sardines, ten boxes of corned beef, and ten boxes of spaghetti. The outreach also saw 50 new mothers receive hampers valued at about GH¢35,000 containing baby essentials such as diapers, clothing, and toiletries to support postnatal care.

Head of Administration at the Sogakope District Hospital, Mr. Samuel Omega, described the donation as a significant relief to the facility. He noted that the hospital continues to provide care to many uninsured patients who are unable to settle their medical bills, a situation that places considerable financial strain on the hospital despite its responsibility to deliver healthcare services.

President of the MyHelp–YourHelp Foundation, Mr. Nicolas Cofie, said the outreach formed part of activities marking the Foundation’s 7th anniversary, adding that the impact on beneficiaries remains the greatest reward for the organisation. He reaffirmed the Foundation’s commitment to expanding its humanitarian work and called for support to help sustain and scale up such interventions in the future.

Beneficiary mothers and patients whose hospital bills were settled expressed heartfelt gratitude, describing the Foundation’s intervention as a lifeline during a difficult festive period.
The MyHelp–YourHelp Foundation noted that the “Love at First Cry” initiative aligns with key Sustainable Development Goals, including poverty reduction, improved healthcare delivery, and the reduction of maternal and infant mortality, while strengthening support for public health institutions across the country.
