The North Dayi District of the Volta Region’s Farmers Day celebration which was held at Tsorxor, was focused on encouraging the youth to venture into agribusiness.

Farmers into food crops and animal husbandry in the relatively agrarian district participated in the ceremony.

The District Chief Executive for North Dayi, Edmond Atta Kudzo urged the youth to utilize the vast arable lands in the district to venture into cash crop farming and establish businesses on the agriculture value chain to turn around the fortunes of the remote district.

He said the Assembly has resolved to assist the youth who will venture into mechanized farming or establish businesses on the agriculture value chain with incentives and resources.

Mr Atta-Kudzo said plans are far advanced to start irrigation projects along the Volta Lake to supply adequate water for an all-year farming in the district.

The District Director for Agriculture, Nusianu Avedzidah said though this year’s weather conditions had a negative impact on farming in the district, food production relatively improved.

He entreated farmers to visit his outfit to access government’s support through the various agriculture-related policies.

Various categories of farmers were awarded flat-screen television sets, fridges, farming inputs among others.

A 45-year-old food crops and vegetable farmer, Stella Dzotefe emerged the District’s Overall Best Farmer. She took home the ultimate prize of a tricycle.
