The National Road Safety Authority (NRSA) says it’s going to present results of its forensic vehicle investigation into Toyota Voxy cars next week.
According to the agency, Toyota’s Voxy vehicle has been the cause of a surge in fatal accidents on Ghanaian roads after its commercial use, specifically for long-distance journeys. The investigation was led by a new Technical Working Group focusing on the potential mechanical risks associated with turning a right-hand drive (RHD) vehicle into a left-hand drive (LHD) vehicle.
The urgency of the probe has been highlighted by recent tragedies, like the crash at Teacher Mante on March 7, 2026, where a Toyota Voxy reportedly traveling at high speed collided with a stationary truck on the Accra–Kumasi highway, resulting in one fatality.
In a meeting with GBC management on March 9, the Director General of the National Road Safety Authority (NRSA), Abraham Amaliba, revealed that the investigation committee was done with its task.
“So we put together a committee to look at VOXY, that particular vehicle, there are about 13 members in the committee, they’ve finished their work and they will give me the report next week,” he stated.
Mr Amaliba also cautioned the public on bad driving habits, specifically during the Easter celebration.
“Enforcement alone is not enough, we need behavioral change, we’re here basically to partner with you {GBC} to ensure that during the Easter festivities these messages are sent to our people so they drive carefully and adhere to the safety rules.”
Motorists and the traveling public are urged to exercise extreme caution when using Toyota Voxy vehicles for commercial transport.
