The Ghana Police Service has issued a public notice outlining strictly approved uniforms for all private security operators across the country, warning that any unapproved attire resembling state security uniforms is illegal.

In a statement dated February 5, 2026, and issued from Police Headquarters in Accra, the Police said the directive is in line with Regulation 12 of the Police Service (Private Security Organizations) Regulations, 1992 (L.I. 1571).

According to the notice, only the following uniform combinations are permitted for use by private security personnel nationwide:

A white long or short-sleeve shirt worn over ash khaki trousers with white stripes on both sides.

A cream long or short-sleeve shirt worn over brown khaki trousers with cream stripes on both sides.

A mauve long or short-sleeve shirt worn over maroon trousers with mauve stripes on both sides.

A yellow shirt with ash or grey reflectors across the front and back, worn over brown khaki trousers, approved exclusively for mines and oil fields.

The Police emphasized that any other uniform, colour combination, design, or turnout not listed, especially those that resemble the uniforms of state security agencies, is considered unauthorized.

Private security companies have been directed to comply fully with the approved specifications. The notice also cautioned that in-house security personnel must desist from wearing uniforms that bear resemblance to those of state security agencies.

The Police further warned that offenders will face sanctions as prescribed by law.

Members of the public have also been encouraged to familiarize themselves with the approved uniforms and report suspected violations to the appropriate authorities.

The notice was signed by the Director-General of Private Security Organizations under the Ghana Police Service
