The Minister for Foreign Affairs, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, has disclosed that Ghana has secured $100 million for new agricultural projects as part of President John Dramani Mahama’s working visit to Japan and participation in the 9th Tokyo International Conference on African Development (TICAD 9).

According to the minister, the government of Ghana and Japan have also revived the Volivo to Dorfor Adidome Bridge project across the Volta River, with both nations committing to provide immediate funding. In addition, the Kumasi inner-city ring road project is set to commence shortly.
The minister in a Facebook post on Sunday August 24, 2025 indicated that key outcome of the president’s working visit is the signing of a new agreement with Toyota, which will expand its operations in Ghana and make the country its hub for West Africa.
Ghana also entered into a groundbreaking space cooperation agreement with Japan to harness space science for national development.

Mr. Ablakwa also revealed that on human capital development, Ghana will benefit from the training of 300,000 young people in artificial intelligence, modern agriculture, green transition, biotechnology, and technology start-ups.
He said Ghana and Japan also agreed on special cooperation to apply advanced scientific research to boost rice production and strengthen food security.

The Foreign Affairs Minister further revealed that Ghana has arranged a strategic industrialization partnership with Japan, as the Asian nation considers dedicating $1.5 billion in new investments for Africa in the short term.
Mr. Ablakwa praised President Mahama for what he described as “a bold vision for resetting and transforming Ghana,” which he articulated during the plenary sessions of TICAD 9.
He stressed that Ghana-Japan relations remain strong, 98 years after Japanese scientist Hideyo Noguchi lost his life in Ghana while serving the country with extraordinary dedication.
