Upper East Regional Minister, Donatus Akamugri Atanga, has expressed concern over the rising incidence of commercial sex activities in Bolgatanga, describing the situation as worrying. The Minister made these remarks while addressing members of the Muslim community during this year’s Eid-Ul Fitr Prayers in Bolgatanga. The Minister joined the Eid-Ul-Fitr Prayers with staff from the Coordinating Council.

In his address, the Minister noted the growing trend of commercial sex activities and substance abuse which he says poses a significant threat to the moral fabric of society and the future of young people in the region.

“Even as we celebrate, we must remain mindful of emerging social challenges within our communities. The rising moral decadence, particularly the growing incidence of commercial sex activity in the regional capital, as well as substance abuse, poses a serious threat to the wellbeing and future of our youth” he said.

Mr. Akamugri Atanga called on leaders within the Muslim community to take an active role in addressing emerging social challenges, particularly those affecting the youth. He urged religious institutions to intensify education and awareness efforts aimed at guiding the youth towards positive and productive lifestyles.

“In a time when peace and security are critical to our progress, let us reject all forms of division, conflict, and intolerance, and instead work together for a more inclusive, stable, and prosperous Region. In this regard, we must collectively support our security agencies to intensify their efforts and strengthen enforcement measures to address these challenges.” He urged.

Mr. Akamugri Atanga added that government remains committed to addressing development gaps and promoting social inclusion, particularly in Zongo communities, as part of efforts to ensure equitable progress for all.
