Vice President, Prof. Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang, has reiterated that significant progress has been made toward the establishment of the Women’s Development Bank, aimed at supporting women entrepreneurs across the country.
She said the initiative forms part of broader government efforts to promote women’s economic empowerment and address challenges confronting women in business.
The Vice President made the remarks during a courtesy call on the Paramount Chief of the Anlo State, Torgbui Sri III, in the Volta Region ahead of the Norvikporgbe Festival in Kedzi.
The Norvikporgbe Festival, held under the theme “The Hidden Treasure of the Coast,” brought together chiefs, residents, and visitors in a celebration of culture, identity, and homecoming, while serving as a platform to chart a path for development.
The Paramount Chief of Kedzi, Torgbui Joachin Acolatse VI, called for urgent and inclusive development. He appealed for the completion of the Ketaport project to help transform the local economy, stressing that local people must benefit through employment and skills training.
He also highlighted major infrastructure deficits in the area and urged government and development partners to collaborate with traditional authorities to ensure sustainable progress.
Speaking at the festival, Prof. Opoku-Agyemang also called for stronger investment in local tourism, youth empowerment, and community-led development to unlock the full potential of coastal communities.
According to her, Ghana’s coastal towns possess rich cultural heritage and natural beauty that, if properly harnessed, can significantly boost tourism and local economies.
Prof. Opoku-Agyemang reaffirmed government’s commitment to upgrading key facilities and empowering communities through decentralisation, enterprise, and cultural preservation. She emphasised unity among traditional authorities and active youth participation in entrepreneurship and skills development as critical to long-term growth.
As part of the celebrations, the Vice President was also enstooled as Mama Adzagba I of Kedzi, in recognition of her support for development in the area.
