The Youth Employment Agency (YEA), under the leadership of CEO Malik Basintale, has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Islamic Education Unit to launch a nationwide Arabic Teachers Module that will recruit 3,000 Arabic teachers.

The MoU signing ceremony, attended by representatives of the National Chief Imam and leaders from various Islamic sects, underscored a deeply collaborative and inclusive approach. It marked a historic moment, bringing together government, religious bodies and civil society to create jobs, preserve cultural heritage and enhance Islamic education across the country.

As part of YEA’s broader mission, the programme reflects its commitment to building inclusive employment opportunities that cater to Ghana’s diverse communities. The initiative will provide recruits with training and formal employment, addressing long-standing gaps in Arabic instruction, particularly within Muslim-majority areas.

This move follows a precedent set in 2016, when the YEA recruited 6,500 Arabic teachers to support Arabic and Islamic education nationwide, demonstrating sustained governmental backing for Islamic studies and education infrastructure.

With this latest MoU, YEA is expected to achieve dual objectives: empowering young people through employment and strengthening Islamic education in public and faith-based schools. Stakeholders have expressed optimism that the Arabic Teachers Module will not only create jobs but also reinforce cultural identity and improve learning outcomes in communities across Ghana.
