Two persons accused of raping a 16-year-old mentally retarded girl, have appeared before Tema Circuit Court A.

A 16 year old Junior High School (JHS) student (name withheld) and Bright Kumako 25yearold welder are accused of having had sex with the victim.

The accused pleaded not guilty to the charges and the court granted them bail in the sum of GH¢25,000.00 each with two sureties each.

The case was adjourned to January 21, 2020.

Presenting the facts to the court presided over by Justice Miriam Samoo, the prosecution led by Chief Inspector Susana Akpere said on November 5, 2019, the student lured the girl to a corner and had sex with her when she went fetching water.

Prosecution said Kumako, who realised that the student had had sex with the girl, warned them not to repeat the act.

Chief Inspector Akpere said later on that same day Kumako also lured the victim to a refuse dump site and had sex with her.

Prosecution said Kumako warned her not to tell anyone and promised to buy her something.

However, the victim told her younger sister about the case, who also informed their parents, who in turn lodged a complaint at the Kpone Police Station.
