The road to stardom in the music industry has become a huge task for many of the young and upcoming musicians in this country.
In order to curb this, African Dreams Factory over the weekend organised an award ceremony known as the Ghana Emerging Music Awards (GEMA) to honour the works of these young and upcoming artistes who are yet to see the limelight.
Speaking to Nation 1 TV, the Executive Director, Amerado Broni Peter, said the purpose of this ceremony is to appreciate, recognise, and elevate emerging artistes.
He bemoaned that the level of support given to these artists is infinitesimal compared to that given to artistes in the mainstream.
He opined that the award ceremony will help emerging artists and connect them to record labels. He shared his optimism that this ceremony, in the coming years, can produce the most coveted ‘Artist of the Year’ in the Vodafone Ghana Music Awards (VGMA).
He believes that the future of Ghanaian music will be great when support is balanced between the mainstream and emerging artists.
Again, he used the occasion to advise the artists that they should take advantage of the digital space, especially the social media platforms, to showcase their talents.
He tasked them to be on alert and on the lookout for such events and programs, which have the ability to connect them to big artists globally.
Banti GH, an Afrobeat, Afropop, and dancehall reggae artiste from the Volta region, expressed his joy at being nominated to be part of this awards ceremony.
He assured his fans to be in anticipation of big projects this year, which will bring them so much excitement.
He advised Ghana’s music industry players to up their game by learning on the job. He believes this will push the industry forward.
