The Ghana Football Association’s Executive Council convenes in emergency session today, April 10, 2026, with appointing a new Black Stars head coach topping the agenda.

The urgency follows Otto Addo’s dismissal after humiliating 5-1 and 2-1 friendly defeats to Austria and Germany last month, exposing dire preparations for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

Less than three months from Ghana’s North American campaign in Group L (England, Croatia, Panama), pressure mounts for decisive technical leadership.

High-profile candidates like Carlos Queiroz, Paulo Bento, Fernando Santos, and reports suggest Kwasi Appiah among a final shortlist of three, vie for the role demanding proven elite pedigree.

Sports Minister Kofi Adams fuels expectation, telling Channel One TV: “If by this weekend we don’t announce the coach, then by Monday at the latest we should be able to present our new Black Stars coach.” Post-decision, GFA will consult government before official reveal.

Preparations resume in May with a Mexico friendly, building to the June 2 Wales clash ahead of the tournament opener. Ghana eyes a fifth World Cup appearance, but fans demand stability now.
