The Ghana Standards Authority (GSA), has stressed the need for local exporters to adhere to rules and regulations governing requirements of importing countries.
Speaking at a Quality infrastructure forum in Accra, the Director General of GSA, Prof. Alex Dodoo explained that exporters can only be competitive if their products are standardized and of the highest quality.
He said the time is ripe for Ghanaian products to be competive on the global front to drive the desired industrial transformation.
A Former National Best Farmer, Davies Korboe called for institutional reforms as well as resourcing of key regulatory agencies to enhance their effectiveness and efficiency.
A representative of the Ministry of Food and Agriculture (MOFA), Prudence Attipoe said the Ministry is undertaking measures to ensure that crops produced in Ghana for both export and local consumption are of the highest quality.
He said aside from banning, there are no outright sanctions for culprits accused of substandard exportation of products.
