The Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) has confirmed receipt of an appeal from the Senegalese Football Federation, challenging CAF’s controversial decision to strip the Lions of Teranga of their 2025 Africa Cup of Nations title. Filed on March 25, 2026, the move launches a high-stakes legal showdown that could rewrite African football history.
Senegal’s FA argues the revocation was unjust, requesting a suspension of appeal deadlines until CAF discloses full grounds for its ruling. This ensures fair preparation time amid growing tensions in the continent’s football landscape, where the title hangs in the balance.

A CAS Arbitral Panel will soon convene to scrutinize submissions from both sides, setting a procedural timeline for briefs, hearings, and possible mediation. Director General Matthieu Reeb affirmed CAS’s readiness: “We are perfectly equipped to resolve this type of dispute… conducted as swiftly as possible, while respecting the right of all parties to a fair hearing.”
The case has electrified African football circles, with fans and analysts debating outcomes. A Senegal win would reinstate them as champions, overturning CAF’s verdict; defeat would cement the new holders and influence future disciplinary precedents.
