The Ghana Registered Nurses and Midwives Association has asked all nurses and midwives in Ghana to remain alert in the conduct of their daily routine in all clinical settings especially the Out-Patient Departments and Emergency Units.

This is to help identify suspected cases and strictly adhere to the universal precautions on infection prevention in the wake of the two confirmed cases of COVID-19 in Ghana.

A statement by the Association and signed by its President and Secretary reiterated the need for the Ministry of Health to provide the necessary logistics required to prevent the spread of the virus at the designated COVID-19 Treatment Centres.

The Association asked that Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) be made available to all nurses and midwives working in isolation Units in the four designated treatment centres.

They, therefore, advised that in cases where the needed logistics are unavailable at the isolation centres, the nurses and midwives should protect their lives by moving from those environments.

It also asked the public to be calm and follow all the preventive measures outlined by the Ministry of Health.
