Renowned highlife musician Amandzeba Nat Brew has spoken out following the passing of legendary artist Charles Kwadwo Fosu, popularly known as Daddy Lumba. In a heartfelt tribute on GTV’s Breakfast Show, Amandzeba emphasized the importance of recognizing and honoring individuals while they are still alive.
Reflecting on Daddy Lumba’s immense influence on the highlife genre and the Ghanaian music industry, Amandzeba expressed regret that such recognition often comes too late.
He noted that Daddy Lumba created a unique niche for himself and made highlife music widely appealing, with songs that became staples at weddings, funerals, and all kinds of gatherings.
He further suggested that, rather than mourning, the music and creative arts industry and fans should use this moment to celebrate Daddy Lumba’s remarkable legacy.
“I see this as a celebration. We should not mourn; we should clap for him, because his labor has not been in vain,” Amandzeba added.
The highlife musician reflected on how the announcement of someone’s passing is never a joyful moment, yet often prompts people to speak more positively about the deceased. He noted that this pattern has made him realize how appreciation for individuals tends to come too late.
Amandzeba also recalled past rumors that falsely claimed Daddy Lumba had passed away, some dating as far back as five and ten years ago. He shared that he, too, had been the subject of similar false reports.
“I’ve ‘died’ twice according to rumors,” Amandzeba remarked with a touch of irony.
He went on to express gratitude for still being alive and active in the music industry. He concluded with hope that Daddy Lumba’s immense contributions will continue to be recognized and celebrated, both now and in the years to come.
