The Minister for Education, Mr. Haruna Iddrisu, has convened a high-level stakeholder meeting in Accra to deliberate on the proposed formula for the 2026 Ghana Education Trust Fund (GETFund) allocation framework.
The sector minister described the discussion during the high-level stakeholder engagement as “focused, constructive, and forward-looking.”
According to the Education Minister, the 2026 framework marks “the beginning of the reset and full operationalisation of a revised allocation formula” designed to align with the broader reform agenda of the President.
Mr. Iddrisu explained that the proposed formula is anchored on enhanced transparency, fairness in distribution, and strategic alignment with national education priorities.
“This framework strengthens efficiency, equity, and accountability in the financing of Ghana’s education sector,” he noted.
A key feature of the new allocation model is the introduction of a dedicated funding stream for Special Needs Education and disability support.
According to the Minister move reflects the government’s commitment to inclusive education and equitable resource distribution.
“The consensus reached at the meeting was strong,” the Minister stated, expressing satisfaction with the outcome of the deliberations.
He confirmed that the proposed formula is now ready to be laid before Parliament for consideration.
The engagement, he added, underscores the “strong and strategic partnership” between the Ministry of Education, Parliament, and GETFund in advancing what he described as President Mahama’s transformative agenda for the education sector.
The meeting brought together the Deputy Minister for Education, the Chair of the Parliamentary Select Committee on Education, the Administrator of GETFund, and the Management of the Ministry of Education to examine reforms aimed at strengthening the financing of Ghana’s education sector.
