The Chief Justice, Justice Anin Yeboah says the General Legal Council is considering opening up legal training to other institutions, provided they meet the set criteria captured in the new Bill before parliament. He said there is pressure on the Ghana School of Law as the sole institution offering legal training with fourteen faculties of law offering the LLB Course.

Justice Anin Yeboah said this at the enrolment of 49 new lawyers in Accra.

Justice Anin Yeboah asked the lawyers to lead an exemplary life in communities they serve and uphold the integrity of the profession.

He advised them to avoid seeing the noble profession as a gold mine and cautioned them against unethical activities that bring the legal profession into disrepute.

Speaking to GBCGhanaonline, Ms. Essenam Mensah, a graduand, stated that the journey hasn’t been easy considering her status as a mother, a banker and an entrepreneur. She gave thanks to God for taking them through.

“I’m humbled by my achievement,” she revealed.

The new lawyers, 49 in all, include 33 females and 16 males. They took an undertaking, led by the Chief Justice.

The General Legal Council has since its inception in 1958 held the responsibilities of training professional lawyers. It has over the years churned out lawyers who have assumed and continue to occupy important positions in all aspects of the economy.
