Former President Jerry John Rawlings has called on the Governing Council of the University of Education, Winneba (UEW), to ask the Vice-Chancellor Rev. Father Prof. Anthony Afful-Broni to step aside while investigations continue into his role in some procurement breaches that led to the dismissal of his predecessor Prof. Mawutor Avoke.
The Former President described as unjust the inability of the University to reinstate Prof. Avoke and some staff of the University of Education particularly after they were exonerated by EOCO.
He called for the time tested values of public Universities to be sustained in order not to jeopardize the integrity of the University’s faculty members in the future.
Former President Rawlings was speaking at  Winneba to mark the 31st December Revolution.
Meanwhile, a Law Lecturer at the University of Education, Winneba, UEW, Alhassan Salifu Bawa, has described the former President’s comments as conceived from an ill-informed position on developments at UEW.
He said the former President did not avert his mind to the ruling on the matter by the Law Court and the manner in which EOCO conducted its investigations.
