The Deputy Director for Public Health in the Bono region, Dr John Ekow Otoo has questioned the manner in which Ghanaians are going about the wearing of nose masks as a way of protecting wearers and others they come into contact with from contracting Covid-19.
In an interview with GBC’s Radio Ghana in Sunyani, Dr Otoo noted that people wearing the mask still risk infection.
He said the frequent touching of the nose mask defeats the purpose of wearing it as the mask could become contaminated with the virus.
Dr. Otoo urged the public to desist from touching the masks to keep them free of contamination.
President Akufo-Addo during his 7th Address to update Ghanaians on the Covid-19 response announced compulsory wearing of face masks from April 20, 2020.
The President encouraged the wearing of face masks to prevent the spread of the virus.
The President’s directive has gone down well with Ghanaians with many complying, Though many have adopted the use of the nose mask, it is not being worn properly due to the frequent touching of the mask while wearing it.
On how it should be worn, the Deputy Director in Charge of the Public Health for the GHS in the Bono, Bono East and Ahafo regions, Dr John Ekow Otoo said, touching the mask makes one risk getting infected with the virus.
Dr Otoo said, the mask should be worn the right way to get the benefit of wearing it.
Dr John Ekow Otoo warned against touching the nose mask, especially when the hands have not been cleaned.
