The Director-General of the Ghana Education Service (GES) has directed the Headmistress of the KNUST Senior High School, Madam Felicia Asamoah Dankwaa to step aside following the death of a student of the school.

The Ashanti Regional Director of Education is to take over the administration of the school while Management of the GES investigates the circumstances leading to the demise of a student on Tuesday, July 7, 2020.

A statement issued on Wednesday, July 8, 2020, said.

Below is a copy of the statement:

Reports say the male student – Master Samuel Leonard suffered stomach complications on Monday, July 6 and had to be attended to after which the pain reduced.

However, he complained of excruciating pains after school lunch at about 2:30 pm and was sent to the dormitory while the school authorities contacted his parents to take him to the hospital.

He, however, died at the hospital.

News of the death of the student sent his colleagues on rampage in the school complaining that the death of their mate could have been avoided if the school authorities had acted promptly.

It took a reinforcement of the Police Riot Control Unit of the Ashanti Regional Police Command to bring the situation under control.

The Ashanti Regional Director of Education, Madam Mary Owusu Afriyie, and the Oforikrom Municipal Chief Executive, Madam Mary Gambrah visited the School to interact with the staff to enable them to have first-hand information on the situation and chart the way forward.
