The arrest in the United States of America of the former head of MASLOC Sedina Tamakloe-Attionu and her anticipated extradition to Ghana has put an issue often overlooked in Ghana into focus.
While the Ministry of Foreign Afffairs spells her name Tamakloe Attionu with out a hyphen, the Embassy of Ghana in the United States spelt the same person’s name with a hyphen Tamakloe-Attionu.
Such discrepancies are often overlooked in Ghana. However, in legal matters, especially in matters with international dimensions, hyphens and other inferences in spelling which we ordinarily take lightly, can become issues that throw off a case.
Without prejudice to the legal process, there is need for clarity, on what the name really is.
Since the two state institutions have the name spelt differently, the Attorney General might have to help in clarifying if Sedina Tamakloe Attionu is spelt with, or without a hyphen.
