Ghana’s military is to evacuate injured Ghanaian tomato traders from Burkina Faso back home for medical attention, following a terrorist attack in Titao, a town in northern Burkina Faso.

The attack on February 14, 2026, claimed the lives of seven Ghanaians and is said to have been carried out by a group linked to Al-Qaeda, calling itself JNIM. Four other Ghanaians who were injured are to be evacuated by the Ghanaian military.

President John Mahama announced the evacuation at the Ghana Tree Crops 2026 Investment Summit and Exhibition in Accra today.

He mentioned that he has convened an urgent security meeting with top officials to address the situation, emphasizing the need for regional cooperation to tackle escalating insecurity in West Africa.

The Ghana Embassy is working closely with local authorities in Burkina Faso to identify burn victims, gather details, and assist survivors.

“Recently, Ghanaian tomato traders were ambushed and unfortunately we lost a number of our compatriots, so the Ghana army is arranging to med-evac them from Burkina Faso so they can continue to receive treatment in Ghana,” he noted.
