A member of the Communications Team of the National Democratic Congress, NDC, Gabriella Tetteh, says the relocation of teachers to the UK is a good news due to the benefits Ghana stands to gain.

She said the teachers will have the opportunity to be exposed to advanced knowledge and skills which can be adopted in Ghana upon their return.

She stated that, the relocation will give teachers the privilege “to have a more structured approach to employment in the UK that allows people to have benefits of the institutional mechanisms that the UK government has put in place to train their teachers so that, should you decide to come to Ghana, you will transfer that knowledge into our educational system.”

In an interview with Kafui Dey on GTV’s Breakfast Show, she said, the report of 10,000 teachers leaving the country is due to economic hardship, inadequate facilities and equipment for the teaching and learning.

“The facilities are not just up to standard” she said.

She further expressed her concern towards the hard work and devotion of teachers towards their work despite the challenges.

“If we were to do a test analysis on professionalism and stress levels, the teachers will be the most stressed, and these people do it so effortlessly,” she emphasised.

Mrs. Tetteh concluded by commending all teachers and appealed to government to give teachers the necessary privileges.

“Congrats to those who won the award and all teachers for their immense contribution that they make in developing the human capital of our country,” she stated during the discussion.

“I think there is a whole lot more that as a country we should be thinking of doing for them, we have to commend greatly their effort and sacrifice” she added.

Her comments come on the back of the celebration of World Teachers Day where the issue of mass relocation of teachers was highlighted.
