Deputy Minister for Food and Agriculture, John Dumelo has emphasized the importance of promoting locally produced goods, saying it is a matter of national pride to eat what we grow as Ghanaians.
Speaking on Ghana’s Agriculture agenda on the GTV Breakfast show on Friday, November 14, 2025, Mr. Dumelo stressed that Ghanaians should prioritize buying Made-in-Ghana products, including chicken, to support local farmers.
“We should be happy to go to the market and say we’re buying made in Ghana chicken instead of the foreign breed which we do not even when it was killed”, he said.
The deputy Minister also highlighted the country’s potential to reduce imports by increasing domestic production, citing the need to empower cocoa farmers with necessary incentives. Although the Ministry of Agriculture isn’t currently providing financial assistance, it’s offering input support like free fertilizers and seeds to farmers.
Mr. Dumelo added that, despite the cedi gaining strength, cocoa farmers are not feeling the benefits, hence the government’s efforts to provide incentives.
“We want to give our cocoa farmers the necessary incentives to empower them,” he said.
The Deputy Minister’s comments underscore the government’s focus on boosting local agriculture and reducing reliance on imports. By promoting Made-in-Ghana products, Mr. Dumelo believes Ghanaians can support local farmers, create jobs, and strengthen the economy.
