With a day to end the Voters Registration Exercise, the Coalition of Domestic Election Observers (CODEO) has scored the process as successful, despite some logistical problems at the early stages.

The Project Manager of CODEO, Rhoda Osei-Afful who was contributing on GBC’s Current Affairs Programme, ‘Focus’, which discussed the last phase of the exercise, said there were problems with scanners, cameras and laptops  at some registration centres.

She mentioned insufficient education by the EC leading to the trooping of people to Registration Centres at the first phase.

She stated that the conduct of some party agents was not the best as some became guarantors for people who did not have any of the required ID cards for the registration.

On accusation of voter suppression, Rhoda Osei-Afful said that has come to their attention and the CODEO is gathering more information on that.

She noted that a few of their observers have reported seeing heavy presence of security personnel.

The Deputy Campaign Manager for the NDC 2020 Campaign Team, Alex Segbefia expressed worry over COVID-19 , since people within some areas were not observing any protocols. He said the exercise has ignited tribal tension.

He defended the busing of people in some part of the Volta Region to registration centres.

The MP for Sekondi, Andrew Egyapa Mercer objected to the NDC allegation and said though the Electoral Process allows the challenging of people who are alleged to be foreigners, the process is not working practically.

A Security Analyst and ECO Security Warehouse, Adam Bonaa attributed the lawlessness in some parts of the country to the EC’s inability to provide full details of security arrangements.
