The Electoral Commission (EC) has announced that the Akwatia constituency by-election will be held on Tuesday, 2nd September 2025, following the death of the sitting Member of Parliament, Hon. Ernest Kumi.

‎In a statement released on Tuesday, July 30, the Commission said the seat has become officially vacant, and the election will be conducted in line with Article 112(5) of the 1992 Constitution.

‎The EC also stated that it will begin receiving nomination forms from prospective candidates from Monday, 11th August to Wednesday, 13th August 2025, at the Denkyembour District Office. Submission will take place between 9:00 a.m. and 12:00 p.m., and again from 2:00 pm to 5:00 pm each day.

‎Interested candidates are to download nomination forms from the EC’s website — www.ec.gov.gh — beginning July 30. Each candidate must submit the forms in quadruplicate, signed by a proposer, a seconder, and 18 other registered voters from the constituency.

‎Candidates must also attach two recent passport-size photographs with a red background and pay a filing fee of GH¢10,000.00. Female candidates and persons with disabilities will pay a reduced fee of GH¢7,500.00.

‎The EC encouraged all stakeholders to take note of the guidelines and deadlines ahead of the by-election.
