Gender Minister Leads Ghana’s Delegation To Brazil For 2nd Global Summit On School Meals Coalition

The Minister for Gender, Children and Social Protection, Dr. Mrs. Agnes Naa Momo Lartey has led Ghana’s delegation to Brazil to attend the 2nd Global Summit on School Meals Coalition. 

At the summit, the Minister showcased the good work the Government of Ghana is doing in the area of school feeding, by providing hot and nutritious meals to children in Governmrnt schools wit the aim to address malnutrition and boost immunity and the well-being of the children thereby reducing diseases and promote their growth. It also seeks to increase enrolment, attendance and retention in school as well as serve as  source for locally produced foods and create market for farmers and provide jobs for caterers. 

Dr. Mrs. Lartey in address said Ghana’s School feeding programme is providing meals for over four-point-two(4.2) million children in 12-thousand basic schools across the Country. 

The Gender Minister who was a panelist at the summit brilliantly delivered on how research has directly impacted on the establishment of the Ghana School Feeding Programme and commended the Moderator, Prof Bundy for his contribution for been part of Ghana’s initial research that informed decision makers, leading to Ghana’s huge investment in the lives of School Children in Ghana through the Ghana School Feeding Programme and other Social Interventions. 

Dr. Mrs. Lartey also shared plans on the way forward and some actionable steps to improve the programme. 

The Minister and her delegation also had bilateral meetings with the delegations from Finland and Ethiopia.
