The immediate Past Chairman of the National Peace Council, Right Reverend Professor Emmanuel Asante, has admonished media practitioners to be circumspect in their utterances on the airwaves and, in particular, moderate socio-political discourse so as not to fall foul of the law.

He says the use of provocative language and attacks on traditional authorities, the clergy, and political leaders not only undermine Ghana’s democracy but also retard national progress.

Rt  Rev Prof Asante, who was a guest on GBC’s Garden City Television Morning Show ‘Anopa Bosuo’ in Kumasi, advised the media to do everything within their sphere of influence to engender the Ghanaian heritage.

In an interview with GBC’s Razak Baba, he advised both electronic and print media to desist from attacking personalities, including traditional authorities and politicians, to engender peaceful coexistence.

He noted that when peace is compromised, it is the poor, the vulnerable, and the marginalised in society who bear the brunt.

Touching on heritage and peace building, Rt. Rev. Prof. Emmanuel Asante underscored the need to ensure integrity, respect, values and moral principles that continued to shape the wellbeing of the citizenry in the past are revisited to address the high level of moral decadence and indiscipline among the youth.
