NDC flagbearer, John Dramani Mahama is promising to de-collateralize and de-cap the GETFund to enable it to effectively perform its mandate.

He said GETFund has not only been collateralized but it has also been capped thereby crippling it from adequately executing the purpose for which the fund was set up.

Responding to issues in the education sector presented to him by four teacher unions in Accra, Mr. Mahama said free SHS, STEM and TVET secretariats will be absorbed into GES while STEM and TVET education will also be incorporated into the SHS system.

The NDC flag bearer John Dramani Mahama was accompanied by his 2024 running mate, Prof Naana Jane Opoku Agyemang and members of the party’s Manifesto Committee.

The President of NAGRAT, Angel Carbonu presented  the Demands of the four teacher unions for education delivery. These include review of the free SHS, conscious investment in basic education, making teaching number one job for employment, allowances for teachers in deprived areas, abolishment of teacher licensure examination, improvement in teaching and learning environment among others.

Mr. Mahama said among other things that he will abolish the double track system, incorporate teacher licensure examination into final examination of students in colleges of education and universities and decentralize employment of teachers through districts and regional directorates of education. Management of basic to secondary schools will be returned to the heads of the schools and they will however be accountable for the performance of the students.

The leadership and members of the four teacher unions, namely NAGRAT, TEWU, CCT Ghana and GNAT took turns to ask Mr. Mahama and his team questions which included the NDC’s  manifesto policy on colleges of education.
