The National Democratic Congress (NDC) has said the central issue in the Kpandai parliamentary election dispute is not legal technicalities but alleged electoral irregularities that undermined the integrity of the polls.

Speaking on GTV’s Current Agenda, the NDC’s Director of Elections and IT, Dr Rashid Tanko, pointed to findings from the Tamale High Court which, he said, revealed widespread violations at several polling stations. He explained that Ghana’s electoral laws permit a maximum of 750 voters per polling station, yet evidence presented to the High Court showed some stations recording as many as 1,400 votes, with others exceeding 1,200.

“You cannot use legal technicalities to justify such clear violations. That is an injustice to the people of Kpandai,” he said.

Dr Tanko accused the New Patriotic Party (NPP) and the Electoral Commission of ignoring substantive evidence of electoral abuse and instead relying on procedural arguments to challenge the High Court’s ruling at the Supreme Court.

He said the NDC would continue to resist any attempt to overturn the will of the electorate through what he described as judicial shortcuts, insisting that the focus should remain on safeguarding the integrity of the electoral process.
