The President, John Dramani Mahama, has left Accra for New York, USA, to lead Ghana’s delegation to the 80th Session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA 80), which officially opens on Tuesday, September 23, 2025.
The President is scheduled to deliver Ghana’s address to the General Assembly on Thursday, September 25, 2025. As the African Union’s champion for financial institutions, he will also host two major side events.
According to a statement issued on Sunday, September 21, 2025, President Mahama will hold important bilateral meetings with the UN Secretary-General, heads of state, and global leaders, including the President of the Rockefeller Foundation during his stay. He will also engage with the US-Africa Chamber of Commerce and make history at NASDAQ, where he will ring the closing bell.
First Lady Mrs Lordina Dramani Mahama will participate in events hosted by the Organisation of African First Ladies for Development (OAFLAD) and deliver the keynote address at a special World Vision International prayer service for children worldwide.
The President’s delegation includes Chief of Staff, Julius Debrah; Foreign Affairs Minister, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa; Health Minister, Kwabena Mintah Akandoh; Trade Minister, Elizabeth Ofosu-Adjare; and other senior officials.
President Mahama and his team are expected back in Ghana on September 30, 2025.
