The Majority Leader and Leader of Government Business, Mahama Ayariga, has commended Members of Parliament of Ghana for what he described as a productive and impactful meeting as the House adjourned sine die on Friday, March 27, 2026.
Delivering his closing remarks at the end of the First Meeting of the Second Session of the Ninth Parliament, Mr. Ayariga praised Members from both sides of the aisle for their dedication and patriotism.
“In the face of differing views and demanding circumstances, you demonstrated the leadership to support the Rt. Hon. Speaker to steer this meeting to a meaningful and productive outcome,” he stated.
He noted that the House held thirty-three sittings within an eight-week period, during which significant legislative and oversight work was undertaken.
The Majority Leader highlighted that sixteen Bills were presented during the meeting, with nine successfully passed into law, including key legislation such as the 24-Hour Economy Authority Act, the Value for Money Office Act, and the Legal Education Reforms Bill.

“This House has demonstrated resilience, responsibility, and a firm commitment to the people of Ghana,” he noted.
He added that Parliament also considered numerous questions, statements and policy matters, reflecting its oversight role in governance.
Mr. Ayariga underscored the importance of Parliament’s role in supporting economic recovery efforts and strengthening democratic institutions.
“While we may differ in opinion, our shared commitment to the national interest must always prevail over partisan considerations,” he said.
He further acknowledged the economic challenges facing the country but assured that the government remains focused on stabilising the economy and promoting inclusive growth.
The Majority Leader also paid tribute to the late Member of Parliament for Ayawaso East, Alhaji Naser Toure Mahama, describing him as a committed lawmaker dedicated to constituency development.
“He was widely regarded for his commitment to constituency development and grassroots engagement… He will dearly be missed,” he said.
Despite the achievements, Mr. Ayariga expressed concern about absenteeism and lateness among some Members, urging them to uphold their responsibilities.
“I therefore urge Hon. Colleagues to endeavour to live up to the responsibility entrusted to us by the citizenry,” he stated.
He concluded by thanking Members of Parliament, the Parliamentary Service and the Parliamentary Press Corps for their contributions, and urged MPs to remain engaged with their constituents during the break.
“The confidence reposed in us by the people of Ghana must never be taken for granted,” he emphasised.
The House has adjourned sine die and is expected to reconvene at a later date.
