The National Democratic Congress (NDC) has condemned alleged incidents of inducement and vote-buying during its parliamentary primary in the Ayawaso East Constituency, describing the claims as a serious breach of party values.

In a statement issued on February 7, 2026, the party said its national executives had been alerted to reports that some aspirants attempted to influence delegates during Saturday’s vote.

The statement signed by the NDC’s General Secretary, Fifi Fiavi Kwetey, said the party “vehemently condemns” the alleged conduct, calling it an affront to its principles and its ongoing reset agenda.

The party announced it has opened a full-scale investigation into the matter and promised swift action against any candidate found culpable.

It also warned that future incidents could attract tougher sanctions, including the possible cancellation of internal elections.

The primary was organised to select a parliamentary candidate following the death of the sitting MP, Mahama Naser Toure.

Five aspirants contested the race: Mohammed Ramne, Hajia Amina Adam, Baba Jamal Mohammed Ahmed, Dr Yakubu Azimdow, and Najib Sani.

There was a heavy security presence at voting centres, but party officials said the process proceeded despite the reported incidents.

Baba Jamal Mohammed Ahmed, Ghana’s High Commissioner to Nigeria, later emerged winner of the primary.
