HIGHLIGHTS OF THE 2020 NPP MANIFESTO WHICH WAS LAUNCHED OVER THE WEEDEND

The launch of the 2020 NPP manifesto in Cape Coast exhibited unique skills, because it dwelt on past challenges through to the present time, portraying how the nation can move forward in the years ahead. Attendance was splendid in the sense that, top party officials as well as members of the diplomatic corps were present at the function.

In view of the observance of safety protocols, all party members were not allowed into the venue for the launch but advised to stay at places, where they could have access to live broadcast. The manifesto itself is divided into three main parts.

The first part deals with accountability to the people. This is necessary because the party needed to account for its stewardship based on promises made prior to the 2016 elections. The second part addressed the issue of consolidating gains that have been made for the country. The achievements made since 2017 need to be seriously protected, so as to improve upon them as the years go by. This is a segment that is very necessary for people to understand how far the party has brought them, and which direction they now have to go. The third and final part of the manifesto dwelt on a takeoff into the future for the purpose of accelerated growth.

Here, all achievements made in sectors of the economy will have to be improved upon and deepened further to ensure massive growth in the lives of the people. The content of the manifesto, from the beginning to the end, shows that as a political party, the NPP knows where it has come from, where the nation has got to and where it is going. It is gratifying that in Ghana today, politics has got to a level where a political party like the NPP clearly understands the need for an important manifesto as was launched over the weekend. It shows that the party has come of age and is now sophisticated in terms of addressing the challenges confronting the nation. The manifesto is a well thought-out programme of intention that shows the vision of the President and his followers. It is indeed a quality document produced by the party based on past experience of development, progress as well as the challenges encountered in various sectors of the economy. The theme for the manifesto “Leadership of service: protecting our progress; transforming Ghana for all” is very significant for a number of reasons.

In the first place, it shows that the leadership of the party is providing quality service that will ensure that the people of this country are led and encouraged to enjoy better standard of living. Here, the leadership is not to lord it over the people, but provide the kind of quality service to ensure progress in all sectors of the economy. Secondly, the manifesto seeks to ensure that the socio-economic growth moves on uninterrupted so that life will see continuous improvement at all times. It is not good to have development today and have destruction of achievements only for the nation to come again and try to restore what has been lost. While doing this, the party is also to fight hard and protect progress made. In addition to this, the country is also to be transformed for the benefit of the people so that with time, life will be better than what it is today.

Programmes such as modernisation of agriculture, digitisation of the country, improvement in the health sector and creative arts are meant to better the lives of Ghanaians. With the launch of the NPP 2020 manifesto, all is now set for the upcoming general election in December. Ghanaians ought to weigh this credible manifesto and see the good things that are in store for them to influence their voting behaviour as a way of pushing the developmental agenda forward so as to ensure better life for all in the years ahead.
