The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has initiated constitutional processes to expel Professor Kwabena Frimpong-Boateng from its ranks following comments he made about the party during a recent media interview.

In a statement issued in Accra on January 13 and signed by the General Secretary, Justin Kodua Frimpong, the party described Professor Frimpong-Boateng’s conduct and utterances as highly reprehensible and inconsistent with the NPP’s values, unity, and integrity.

The NPP said it took particular notice of remarks made by Professor Frimpong-Boateng during an interview on Channel One TV on Monday, January 12, 2026, in which he described the party as a “fake party” and declared that he no longer considered himself a member.

The statement further indicated that he made additional disparaging comments, including allegations that the party’s 2023 presidential primary was rigged in favour of Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, the NPP’s presidential candidate for the 2024 general election.

The party unequivocally rejected what it called Professor Frimpong-Boateng’s “unfortunate” characterisation of the NPP and firmly denied the allegations regarding the conduct of the 2023 primary, describing them as baseless and unsubstantiated.

According to the statement, the presidential primary was widely acknowledged by all participating candidates and many party members as free, fair, transparent, and credible, and as a true reflection of the will of the delegates.
