The Ghana Police Service in the Yilo Krobo Municipality in the Eastern Region has enforced strict security measures at the voting centre at Ogome Anglican Basic School in the Yilo Krobo Constituency by preventing NPP delegates from entering the inner perimeter with mobile phones, bags, purses and other personal items.
According to the police, the measure is aimed at ensuring transparency and safeguarding the integrity of the voting process. Delegates are required to deposit their personal belongings at a designated spot with the police before proceeding to cast their ballots.
Two police officers have been positioned at the spot to supervise the collection of the items before delegates proceed to the restricted area to cast their votes.
The security service explained that the arrangement is to prevent delegates from taking photographs of their ballots to show which candidates they voted for.
The Somanya District Commander of the Ghana Police Service, Superintendent Kingsley Abrokwa, disclosed that about 60 police officers have been deployed to the voting grounds, with others on standby to maintain law and order throughout the exercise.
The police have assured voters of their commitment to providing a safe and orderly environment until the end of the exercise.
Meanwhile, the Electoral Commission Director for Yilo Krobo, Ms Akua Mensah, said a total of 858 delegates are expected to cast their ballots at the Ogome Anglican voting centre in the Yilo Krobo Constituency.
She noted that the voting exercise commenced at exactly 7:00 a.m. and, as of reporting time, over 200 delegates have cast their ballots, with the process remaining peaceful and smooth.
Over two hundred and eleven thousand delegates of the NPP nationwide will today choose one among the following to emerge as the flagbearer of the party going into the 2028 general elections. These include the former Vice President and 2024 NPP flagbearer, Dr. Mahamadou Bawumia; former Assin North MP, Kennedy Ohene Agyapong; former Food and Agriculture Minister and MP for Abetifi, Dr. Bryan Yaw Acheampong; former Education Minister and MP for Bosomtwe in the Ashanti Region, Dr. Yaw Adutwum; and former Presidential Spokesperson, Kwabena Agyei Agyapong.
