Defence Minister, Dr Edward Omane Boamah, says Ghana’s presidential jet is out of service for repairs abroad after being run down by the previous Akufo-Addo administration.

His remark comes after claims by some New Patriotic Party (NPP) members that Vice President Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang used a chartered flight to return from the UK on Thursday, May 22, after receiving medical treatment.

MP for Old Tafo, Vincent Ekow Assafuah, claimed the Vice President used a private VistaJet flight, costing the state over GHS 2 million. He also shared what he said were her flight details on Facebook.

Dr Boamah dismissed the claims, stating that the previous government left the Presidential aircraft in poor condition.

“Akufo-Addo’s administration ran down the Presidential jet. Its fuel tank is corroded, and it’s been sent abroad for repairs. It may only be usable again after three months,” he said in a social media post.

In a follow-up response, Mr Assafuah said he would raise the issue in Parliament when it reconvenes.

He said he would demand answers on the cost of the Vice President’s chartered flight, the current condition of the Presidential jet, and why the government is blaming a former president.
