Police caution political parties against deploying thugs to polling stations

The Police say they have identified 6,178 flash points ahead of the 2020 elections.

Director of Operations at the Police Headquarters, DCOP Dr Perbi Gariba said to prevent conflict, the police with assistance from other security agencies have adopted a 4 tier approach to coordinate security for the elections.

Speaking at a forum for security agencies organised by the Ministry for Parliamentary Affairs, DCOP Dr Perbi Gariba cautioned political parties against deploying, what he described as thugs in uniform to any polling station.

He said only uniformed security personnel will be deployed and nothing else. He warned that the security agencies will not spare anybody or groups which try to forment trouble on election day.

DCOP Perbi Gariba cautioned uniformed personnel to go by the directives given them and take lawful instructions from the presiding officers at the polling stations.

Meanwhile, DCOP Gariba says the Police Service and the Ghana Armed forces have launched two operations; “Operation our Motherland in the Volta Region to deal with activities of the secessionist groups; and ‘Operation Conquer fest’ in the northern part of Ghana to deal with activities of terrorists.

He said the security agencies will adopt a holistic approach to dealing with any threat in the 2020 elections.
