Vice President, Professor Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang, has held discussions with the European Union (EU) Ambassador to Ghana, H.E. Rune Skinnebach, aimed at strengthening cooperation on peace, security, and trade.

The meeting, held at the Vice President’s office, focused on enhancing bilateral and regional partnerships in the context of a rapidly changing global environment.

Professor Opoku-Agyemang stressed the need for “genuine partnerships” built on equity, mutual respect, and shared strategic interests. She also called for a review of existing agreements between Ghana and the EU to address gaps and unlock new areas of collaboration.

“Peace is the cornerstone of progress,” the Vice President noted, arguing that it is more effective, sustainable and cost-efficient to prevent security crises than to react after they occur. She underscored the importance of early action, strong institutions, and collective commitment in safeguarding stability.

The talks also touched on opportunities emerging under the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA). Professor Opoku-Agyemang reaffirmed Ghana’s readiness to leverage AfCFTA to consolidate its role as a regional hub for trade and integration.

The Vice President expressed appreciation to the EU for its continued partnership and reiterated Ghana’s desire to deepen cooperation to promote stability, prosperity and shared growth.
