The body of Zimbabwe’s former President Robert Mugabe is on its way from Singapore, where he died last week, for burial in his home country.

Police motorcade escorted a hearse and other vehicles to the airport from the funeral parlour where his body had been held after his death last week.

Hundreds of people are expected to gather at the Harare Airport this afternoon for the arrival of his body.

His body will lie in state for two days for the public to pay their last respect. Meetings between government and his family have so far failed to resolve the outstanding question of where he will be buried.

His family members are reported to have said his dying wish was to be buried in his rural home and did not want those who ousted him from power in November 2017 to preside over his funeral.
