The Ghana Civil Aviation Authority (GCAA) has confirmed that Rwandair, Rwanda’s national carrier, has put in a request for the fifth freedom rights to enable it to operate the Accra-New York route.
This, follows an announcement by Kenya Airways to reduce its flights on the route, the GCAA said, although the request has been received, approval had not yet been given.
The request is expected to be discussed between Ghana and Rwanda at the forthcoming International Civil Aviation Organisation (ICAO) Air Service Negotiations Conference to be held in Nairobi from today, December 10 to 14, 2018.
Kenya Airways launched flights between Nairobi and New York in October, 2018, offering daily flights but announced, barely a month after, that it will reduce its frequency to five, starting January 15, 2019, in order to accommodate seasonality in demand.
