The Karni Area Youth and Development Association, KAYDA, in the Upper West Region has secured a fifty acre land to construct a technical school in the area.
All communities under the traditional area have been levied and molding of blocks has started for work to commence on the project soon.
Chairman of the Association, Aggrey Faabar, stated this during the annual general meeting of the Association at Karni.
GBC’s Correspondent Sualah Abdul-wahab reports that the association is determined to see to the start of the technical school before the end of this year.
Karni Traditional Area in the Lambussie district has an estimated population of twenty-five thousand (25,000).
It has six junior high and nine primary schools. The nearest technical school to the area is located at Nandom.
Inhabitants of the area at a general meeting of the Association voted overwhelmingly for the construction of a technical school against a senior high school.
A retired headmistress of Saint Francis Girls, Reverend Sister Janis Gbiel who is also a native of the Karni area said she has started soliciting support abroad to help in constructing the technical school.
Some Junior High School students in an interview said a technical school will equip them with the requisite skills to become self-employed instead of looking for jobs after school.
They therefore added their voice to the call on government and other organizations to help in establishing the school as soon as possible.
