The Volta Regional Football Association (VRFA) has taken a significant step towards modernizing football competition in the region by introducing the Competition Management System (CMS).

The training workshop which spanned from November 2 to 4, 2025, was facilitated by the Deputy Secretary of the Ghana Football Association (GFA), in charge of Information Technology (IT), Francis Adu.

It was well attended by Division Two clubs, Match Commissioners, and Referees with each group taking thier turn.

Speaking at the workshop, VRFA Chairman Daniel Agbogah said the CMS would improve the efficiency, best practices, and transparency of football competitions accross the  region.

“The CMS will help us to effectively manage and administer football competitions, and enhance the game in a digitalized way,” he said.

The workshop covered a range of topics, including the use of CMS, match reporting, and the roles and responsibilities of match commissioners and referees.

Participants at the workshop welcomed the introduction of the CMS, saying it would help to eradicate problematic issues such as unqualified players and protest cases.

“This solves an aspect of the unqualified player’s protest cases because if the player isn’t actively registered, the CMS won’t pick the player for selection on a match day,”Abimael Kponu of Bebeto FC said.

With the Volta Regional Division Two League scheduled to start on November 14, 2025, the VRFA is confident that the CMS will help to ensure a smooth and a successful season.

The introduction of the CMS is part of the VRFA’s leadership efforts to develop and enhance football in the region, allowing clubs and officials to participate in both regional and national competitions.

The CMS is a digital platform designed to manage and administer football competitions, making it easier for clubs, match commissioners, and referees to perform their duties.

Clubs in the Ghana Premier League, Women’s Premier League, and Division One League have been using the CMS for several years.
