About 28,542 children aged nine (9) to fifty-nine (59) months will be vaccinated in the Sefwi Wiawso Municipality of the Western Region against Measles.
The children will be given Vitamin A supplement to help in the development of a child and avoid deformities like blindness, brain damage, malnutrition and hole-in- heart.
Rubella immunisation begins throughout the country on the 17th of this month.
The Municipal Director of Health Services, Peter Ofori Tweneboah, told GBC’s Radio Ghana at Sefwi Wiawso that series of training programmes have prepared the personnel for the exercise.
The exercise was initially piloted in the Central Region in 2001 before being extended to all regions in 2003 and has since been an ongoing programme.
In order to achieve the targeted figure, Mr Tweneboah said there will be mobile teams to administer the vaccines while others will also be placed at vantage points like schools, lorry stations, churches and mosques to draw closer to parents with children in the age bracket.
