Antony‘s loan move from Manchester United to Real Betis appears to have reignited the Brazilian winger’s career, as he expresses newfound happiness in his environment.
The 24-year-old, who departed Old Trafford in January following a disappointing two-and-a-half-year spell, has already made a significant impact in La Liga.
Reflecting on his transition, Antony remarked, “When you are happy, everything comes naturally,” highlighting the positive influence of his new surroundings on his performance.
During his time at Manchester United, Antony’s form sharply declined after an impressive start, where he scored three goals in his first three Premier League appearances. However, his record dwindled to just two goals in his subsequent 59 matches for the club.
Since the beginning of the 2023/24 season, he has managed a dismal four goals in 52 appearances. This lack of production ultimately led to his departure from the club as United sought to revitalise their squad.
In stark contrast, Antony has quickly become a crucial player for Real Betis, scoring his first La Liga goal in a recent match against Celta Vigo and netting again during Betis’ convincing 3-0 victory over Gent in the Conference League.
His resurgence has drawn attention, with Betis’ CEO Ramon Alarcon expressing interest in making the loan a permanent move. “There is very good chemistry with Manchester [United] and with the player,” Alarcon stated, suggesting a potential long-term relationship could develop.
While the possibility of a permanent transfer is on the table, negotiations will be necessary for Betis to secure Antony’s services.
Given his initial transfer fee of over £80 million from Ajax, it seems unlikely that United will recoup a significant portion of that investment. Nonetheless, Antony’s uplift in form could encourage the club to find a middle ground that benefits both parties.
