The Government of Ghana have given the green light to a budget of $856,890 out of the $1,239,090 initially requested for the Ghana Black Stars’ upcoming match against Chad in the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers.
This funding approval comes as the national team prepares for two critical fixtures during the September international break, with games scheduled against Chad and Mali.
Minister for Sports and Recreation, Kofi Adams disclosed that the Ghana Football Association (GFA) had originally submitted a budget estimate of over $1 million for the away match versus Chad.
After careful scrutiny, the government trimmed the requested funds, approving approximately $856,890 instead. “The estimate submitted for Match Day 7 [against Chad] was over $1 million,” Kofi Adams explained at a press conference, highlighting the government’s commitment to financial prudence.
Regarding travel expenses, Kofi Adams emphasized a standardized approach: “The ticket for players and officials, we have a flat unit for all players and officials, but some spend more, while others spend less. The flat amount was $6,000 per ticket for all 28 players and officials.”
He also noted that the Ministry has consistently reviewed flight costs and sought alternative means to secure tickets at lower prices since he assumed office. The Black Stars departed this evening for Chad ahead of their Thursday, September 4 match. This fixture is seen as pivotal in Ghana’s campaign to secure qualification for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
Following the clash with Chad, the team will immediately shift focus to their next qualifier against Mali, scheduled for September 8.
As preparations intensify, the governments budget approval and careful management of resources underpin the support framework aimed at helping the Black Stars achieve success in their World Cup qualifying journey.
