CAF Women’s Awards 2025: Ghana’s Black Queens earn five key nominations

Ghana secures a strong presence in the Confederation of African Football CAF Women’s Awards 2025 shortlists, with five players and staff earning nominations across key categories.

CAF’s list covers performances from 6 January to 15 October 2025 and reflects results from domestic leagues, continental club competitions and international matches.

The Ghanaian names to watch:

Portia Boakye — nominated for Women’s Player of the Year after another dependable season at Hapoel Petah Tikva and steady leadership with the Black Queens.
Cynthia Konlan — on the Goalkeeper of the Year list following strong displays for Swieqi United and national team call-ups.
Stella Nyamekye — shortlisted for Young Player of the Year as a promising creative force at Fort Lauderdale United and with the Black Princesses.
Lars Kim — nominated for Coach of the Year for steering Ghana to a solid showing at recent continental tournaments.
Ghana Women’s National Team — in the running for National Team of the Year, recognised for tactical discipline and a renewed competitive edge.

CAF makes clear that each category carries 10 nominees, chosen by an expert panel that blends technical directors, former stars and journalists. That process aims to balance statistical performance with influence on the pitch, leadership and contributions to team success.

The full CAF shortlist highlights talent across the continent. For Ghana, these nominations come as a sign that domestic development and international exposure combine to produce players who can compete with Africa’s best.

Why this matters for Ghana:
This crop of nominees signals progress along three fronts: player pathways (youth to pro), coaching quality, and visibility for women’s club football.
